EXCELLENT serving light refreshments and
useful on any occasion where a light utility
table is needed, this folding unit makes a
compact bundle readily stored out way when not in
use.
The construction calls for two sets of legs, each
set made from 1-inch square stock cross braced
with two bars. One set is fixed to the hinge
block on the underside of the table; the other
set is free to pivot and thus hold the top in an
extended flat position. The tops of the swinging
legs are fitted with furniture glide buttons, the
button-nesting in shallow holes drilled in the
stop blocks. It will be noted in the plan view,
that the set of fixed legs are recessed into the
hinge bar and cross it diagonally.
Leg corners should be rounded over and a
shallow cove cut can be run in on the three
exposed sides as a decorative touch.
The top is made from 1/2 inch plywood stock of a
good grade The stock is ripped into the three
pieces required - a narrow center strip and two
semicircular leaves - after which the pieces are
temporarily fitted together with cleats to permit
band sawing and shaping to a true circular shape.
The leaves fit flush with the hinge bar and are
fastened to it with six hinges, three to each
leaf. Finish should be two-tone paint or lacquer,
the top contrasting with the legs. If a cove
moulding is used on the legs, it should be
striped in color to match the color of the top.
