Race Car

The actual finished item. |
Home Depot sponsored driver Tony
Stewart in their Chevrolet car #20
at the 2005 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series
race at California Speedway. How about cutting
out the pieces to this project and let your
Junior Woodcrafter assemble it for a cool little
race car.
This simple project can be left unfinished or you
can stain or paint it. The Jr, Woodcrafter
actually made this item at the March Home Depot
children's workshop. |
Start by downloading the full
scale drawings in the Acrobat file by clicking on
the link below. Cut all the pieces as indicated
in the drawings, drill the axle holes, and
predrill all the nail holes with a very small
bit. Paint all surfaces of the pieces with the
basic color and black for the wheels and axle
pegs.
You may wish to print up window and door decals
on self sticking labels (look on the web for
pictures of cars) or let the builder(s) paint the
car.
You can also elect to use pre-made 1"
diameter wheels from a craft store. |
| The Jr Woodcrafter will need the
ten project pieces, the directions, four (4) ¾" finishing nails, one
sheet of 150 grit sandpaper, a really cool
workshop apron small enough for kids, and safety
goggles. |
| Construction. |
| 1. Nail the base to the upper body with four
nails. |
|
| 2. Now, locate the four wheels and the four
axle pegs. |
|
| 3. Insert an axle pin into each wheel. |
|
| 4. Place a bead of glue around the end of the
peg and push it into the axle pin hole. |
|
| 5. Be careful you do not glue the wheel to
the pin and do not push tyhe pin in so far the
wheel binds. |
|
| 6. Paint on windows and decorations or apply
printed decals. |
